We're Ready to Break Ground

The Board of Directors of the 173d Airborne Brigade Foundation proudly announces plans to break ground for the 173d Memorial!

The Ground Breaking is scheduled for Friday July 11th 2008 at 11AM. The Ceremony will take place at the site where the Memorial is to be constructed on the Campus of the National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center located between Fort Benning and the City of Columbus Georgia.

This ceremony is of great symbolic importance but will be relatively simple. No special activities surrounding this event have been planned. While lasting only 15-30 minutes, this groundbreaking marks the crossover from preparation to actuality.

HELP US FIND OUR FALLEN BROTHERS!

Recently, a Gold Star sister and a comrade came forward with information which enabled the Heraldry Committee of the Brigade Memorial Foundation to add two Vietnam era Sky Soldiers to the KIA list posted on the Memorial website.

In the Fall of 1968, Timothy S. Owen disappeared from his unit, D/1/503, during a combat operation. He was listed as MIA (presumably captured), and finally declared KIA on 4 June 1974. He has never been posted on any of the various Brigade "Died in Service" lists that have been published over the years. G. Alice Owen, his sister, reviewed the website list, saw him absent, and notified the Board with the details of his service.  Read More...

Own a piece of history

Northwest Territorial Mint worked closely with the 173d Airborne Brigade Memorial Foundation to create a medallion that captures the unit?s unique identity and commemorates the Sky Soldier Memorial. The obverse (heads) side of the 1 7/8-inch medallion features the unit's distinctive emblem. The reverse bears a rendering of the new memorial, which is sited on the grounds of the National Infantry Museum adjacent to Fort Benning, Georgia. Own a piece of history today

Aussies Talk through their Hats

For the second year in a row, our brothers in Arms from Chapters 11 & 27 have literally talked through their hats, and made a second generous contribution to the memorial Building Fund. At the recent 173d Airborne Association Reunion held in Rochester, Minnesota, the Aussies and their ladies from Chapters 11 & 27 raffled one of their famous uniform hats and donated the proceeds, some $450.00, to the fund. Our deepest appreciation to our allies for their support of our efforts!!

AVIS & DELTA PROVIDE CORPORATE SUPPORT

Avis Car Rental and Delta Airlines have lined up behind the 173d Airborne Brigade Memorial Foundation's efforts to commemorate the accomplishments of the legendary 173d Airborne Brigade. At the Brigade's annul reunion, conducted at Rochester Minnesota in July, an Avis Car Rental Certificate and four round trip Delta Airline coach tickets were raffled off to the highest bidders, netting a combined total of more than $1,000.00 for the fund raising effort. The Foundation Board of Directors, and all Sky Soldiers, deeply appreciate the actions of these two patriotic organizations and their assistance in moving us toward our financial goal.
